Firebird's Garden

Available$285

A hand-painted ceramic medallion carries a crested firebird perched beside a curling amber bloom, its long tail spiraling outward like the stem of the flower beside it. Warm ochres, ember reds, and deep leaf-greens are outlined in fine black against the ivory relief surface. The piece is mounted on forest-green velvet within a brushed-gold frame, so the ceramic reads almost as a cameo lifted from another century.

ON THIS WORK

In Persian and Turkish decorative traditions, the firebird carries meaning that outlasts any single image: renewal, the passage between seasons, the presence of beauty even in fleeting things. This ceramic medallion draws from that lineage without quoting it directly. The crested bird turns its head just slightly, as though it noticed the viewer a moment before the viewer noticed it. The medallion is shaped by hand, its irregular deckled edge inked with a fine border of dots and scrolls that echo the floral stem below the bird. That border keeps the eye circling rather than escaping, which is how miniature painting traditions have always worked: not a window to look through, but a world complete in itself. Mounted against deep velvet and enclosed in a gold frame, the piece becomes an object twice over: a painting and a jewel at once. It arrives ready to hang and ready to hold.
