Petal Fragments

Two flowers share a plate but not a moment. The left cluster is memory, its petals loosely assembled like pressed specimens remembered from a garden; the right bloom is presence, teal and immediate, its stamens still tracing outward as if the wind had just passed through. The sgraffito lines scratched into each petal before firing let the clay body speak beneath the glaze, giving every shape a second texture to discover. The rim's dash marks return the eye gently to the center, a quiet border that never competes. This piece belongs to a series exploring how botanical forms hold time differently depending on how we paint them. Close observation and slow repetition are built into every underglaze stroke.
