The Lighthouse Stands

Every coastline carries a lighthouse as its grammar, the fixed point from which distance is measured and safe return is calculated. Here, the tower is built by hand from textured clay, each stone course scored by finger and tool, so that you can almost feel the weight of centuries of salt and repair in its walls. The sea it stands in is made from broken things remade whole. Discarded glass, melted down and pooled across the dish's floor, resolves into water at once turbulent and glassy, teal shifting into cobalt, green surfacing then sinking. The red-sailed boat is barely a gesture, a sliver of fired clay, yet it orients the entire scene: something is always arriving, or leaving. This piece belongs to a conversation between permanence and passage. The fired ceramic will not soften; the glass will not flow again. What feels like motion is memory, held inside a circle you can hold in both hands.
