ON THIS WORK
The idea began with the rim, not the body. A ring of tiny clay flowers, pressed and shaped by hand before the first firing, would become the vessel's reason for existing. The white body beneath them is deliberately quiet, a surface that asks the eye to travel upward toward the gold.
Gold luster in ceramics carries a long memory. From Persian lustreware to Ottoman Iznik tradition, gilded clay has marked objects as worthy of ceremony and daily devotion alike. Here, the scale is intimate: a crown meant for a windowsill, not a palace.
The piece invites slowness. Turn it in your hands and the light shifts across the relief petals, each one slightly different from the last, a record of the fingers that formed them.
