Foxgloves grow tall at the edge of meadows, their tubular blooms stacked like lanterns waiting to be lit. This brooch captures that vertical reaching, compressed into an oval no larger than a coin, rimmed in scalloped clay and touched at the edge with gold.
The piece begins as a flattened disc of raw clay, the border pinched into its ruffled frame by hand before the surface accepts underglaze pigment. Firing fuses color to body; the gold is added last, a thin thread of warmth around the perimeter.
Worn on a lapel or pinned to a linen bag, the brooch carries the quiet insistence of wildflowers, something small that refuses to go unnoticed.
