In Persian poetry, the bird that sings among roses carries a message it can never quite deliver. Here that bird settles into clay, its feathers layered in brown, rose, and warm yellow, while four flowers lean toward it from their slender stems. The gold that traces each outline is not decoration alone; it is the light that Persian miniature painters reserved for the things most worth attention.
The piece began as a pinch of white clay shaped into an oval, then slowly populated with color. Acrylic paint was applied in thin washes, building up the petals and the bird's soft gradient from back to breast. Gold detail was added last, drawn by hand along every edge that needed to sing.
