ON THIS WORK
In Persian garden poetry, the garden is never simply a garden. It is an interior world held behind a wall, full of things that bloom in private. This painting begins at that threshold.
The white lotus at the center is built up from translucent lace-like paste, its petals etched with gold seed-shapes that recall both calligraphy and botanical illustration. Around it, the ground is worked in warm ochres, deep teals, and rose, each passage applied and scraped and applied again until the surface holds its own memory.
A latticework of pale lines at the left edge suggests a trellis or a window grate, something at once ornamental and confining. The garden is abundant, even riotous, yet the lotus at its heart stays still. It has nothing to prove to the noise around it.
