ON THIS WORK
Fire does not simply burn; it transforms. At the base of this painting, a compressed heat of red and orange presses against deep blue, the way a seed holds pressure before it splits open. From that meeting point, a vaporous column rises, turns, and opens into the lighter sky above.
The chartreuse field was built up in soft, damp layers that left traces of white linen showing through, giving the ground a living, atmospheric quality. The smoke form was painted wet-into-wet, allowing the cerulean and white to find their own edges without coercion.
In Persian cosmology, the four elements were never separate forces but partners in a single conversation. This piece inhabits that idea: the heavy and the light, the hot and the cool, rising together into something that can no longer be named by either alone.
