Dark Sun, Still Peaks

Some landscapes exist only at the edge of a remembered moment, the precise second before dawn breaks or darkness fully settles. This painting lives in that pause. Three peaks, built from flat planes of charcoal, slate, and cream, press upward with a quiet certainty, while a solid black disc watches from the upper corner, neither rising nor setting. The textured blush ground was worked before the geometric forms were laid, so the mountains emerge from something warmer than emptiness. The palette is deliberate: restraint over drama, stillness over motion. There is nothing decorative about the black circle. It is simply present, as weight and witness. In Persian and Anatolian traditions, the circle above a mountain is an ancient sign of passage between the seen and unseen worlds. Here, stripped of ornament, it keeps that charge while belonging entirely to the contemporary moment.
